March Activities
Things started to pick up this month right after I completed work on the organ. Here are a few pictures. The first chair came from Wytheville, VA and is hand caned. The iron and wood chair (pic 2) has a pressed cane seat that I also stained. The child's high chair (pic 3) I am told is about 200 years old. I used a 1/4" binder cane to replicate it's original weave.

The Pump Organ Reborn
Chair work came to a dead halt during the months of January and February. Seems that's the trend over the past few years and with this past winter, the only thought on any one's mind was staying warm. Thank goodness spring has arrived!! Yahoo!! Any way, I've had this old pump organ in my shed that came from one of the local churches in Galax years and years and years ago. It was in a hundred pieces and sitting on a mud floor. I put it on blocks and swore one day to do something with it. That was back in 1988. Well, I finally got around to working on it during the down time and here are the results. Tell me what you think?
I'm baaaaccck!!!!!
To all my two fans, "Hello", I'm back. Sorry I've been away so long, but finding the time to update my blog seems to be scarce lately. Things are buzzing in Galax as we prepare for the grand opening of the Chestnut Creek School of the Arts April 16 and 17, 2010. I am so excited to see the school finally come to fruition. All the hard work done by so many people to get the school off the ground can finally take a deep breath and take pride in a job well done. A black tie gala will be held at the school on Friday evening, April 16. Tickets are $50 and include wine, hors'devours, souvenir and entertainment. Call 276-236-3500 for reservations and additional information. A noon time parade of the arts will kick off festivities on Saturday, April 17. There will jugglers, magicians, stilt walkers, artisans, musicians and much, much more. Instructors from the school will be on Grayson Street from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. demonstrating their craft and selling their creations and art works. Registration for classes offered at the school will also be available. I hope everyone will come and help us celebrate this historic occasion. For Galax, this is big. B I G ! ! !
